Top 5 Questions to Ask Regarding Your Tattoo Removal

How many sessions will it take to remove my tattoo?

No one can predict the number of sessions needed to completely remove your tattoo. Many variables contribute to removal including age of tattoo, quality and type of ink used, depth of ink placement, location on body and of course the type of laser that is being used. What we tell all our clients at EvolvMD MedSpa & Body Contouring is that they can expect to have their tattoo cleared in HALF the number of treatments of traditional Q-swith lasers.

Are certain colors more difficult to remove?

For standard Q-switch tattoo removal lasers (the bulk of lasers used in tattoo removal) blues and greens can be impossible to target. If you think this won’t be a problem for you because your tattoo is pure black think again. Tattoo artists blend colors to create black and many black inks are heavily mixed with blue and green pigment. The good news is that Picosure excels at treating blues and greens. EvolvMD MedSpa & Body Contouring has helped several clients whose tattoo removal had stalled using standard Q-switch lasers go on to achieve amazing results.

Does laser tattoo removal hurt?

Most of EvolvMD’s clients find the treatment to be much easier that getting the tattoo in the first place. We offer both numbing cream and a cold air chiller as topical anesthesia. Additionally the Picosure laser is so fast that a small tattoo, about the size of a deck of cards, will take less than one minute.

Are lasers the only option to remove tattoos?

Lasers are the only effective option for tattoo removal. The active ingredients in tattoo removal creams or injections are usually bleaching agents and/or harsh acids. However the reality is that the ink in your tattoo lies too far beneath the surface, in the secondary layers of your skin, and is left untouched by topical creams.

Further, these chemicals can cause some very unwanted side effects such as scarring, chemical burns, or permanent skin texture changes. This is especially true when the cream’s instructions require that you abrade your skin with sand paper beforehand!

How do lasers that do tattoo removal vary?

Lasers remove inks based on specific wavelengths of light that are best absorbed by certain colors. Depending on the wavelength the laser uses certain colors will be treated more effectively than others. Traditional tattoo removal lasers rely on energy delivered by nanoseconds to break apart the colors into small pieces that are then removed by the body’s immune system. Our tattoo removal laser, PicoSure, took 10 years to develop and uses PICOseconds which is energy 1000 times faster than a traditional Q-switch laser. The PICOsure advantage is more effective ink destruction resulting in fewer treatments with less damage to the underlying skin and less discomfort to you!
