TL;DR:
Smile lines are a natural result of aging but can be reduced without surgery. Consider injectables like Restylane® or try Sylfirm X RF Microneedling for skin tightening and collagen stimulation. Avoid relying solely on Vaseline; instead, use products with retinol, peptides, and sunscreen for long-term care.
Main Points:
- Smile lines are a natural part of aging due to loss of collagen and elasticity.
- Treatments like injectables and fillers can minimize wrinkles and restore volume with no downtime.
- Restylane® is recommended for smile lines, as it plumps lips and reduces wrinkles for up to six months.
- Sylfirm X RF Microneedling tightens skin and stimulates collagen, improving overall skin elasticity.
- Avoid relying solely on Vaseline for wrinkle prevention; instead, use products with retinol, peptides, and sunscreen.
We promise that your smile lines aren’t a punishment for smiling! More often than not, the wrinkles around the mouth, or nasolabial folds, are the natural result of the aging process. Women lose elasticity and collagen as they age, which can make facial wrinkles appear deeper and more pronounced.
We understand that, for a lot of women, smile lines aren’t something to smile about. While aging isn’t optional, smile lines can be. With the right treatments and procedures, you can get rid of lines around your mouth without surgery.
As experts in reverse aging, we have a few suggestions for how to reduce the appearance of laugh lines, mouth wrinkles, and other signs of facial aging. Keep reading to learn all our best tips for smoothing smile lines!
Considering Injectables: A Lifeline to No Lines
Injectable treatments and fillers can combat the signs of aging by smoothing and minimizing wrinkles, restoring volume, and increasing collagen. They offer a quick, natural result with no downtime or recovery.
Many women notice a difference immediately. Best of all, they’re minimally invasive. Consider Botox treatments, which can take as few as ten minutes!
For women who are trying injectables for smile lines for the first time, we generally recommend Restylane®. It’s an FDA-approved dermal treatment that plumps your lips and reduces the appearance of smile lines. It can also treat marionette lines, smoker’s lines, and the corners of the mouth. One treatment will keep you looking youthful and radiant for as long as six months.
Restylane gets rid of wrinkles around the mouth naturally. Its hero ingredient is an all-natural, FDA-approved substance called hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring in the body. During a Restylane treatment, it attaches to water in your cells, making your skin and lips look plump and dewy.
We believe this is the best treatment for wrinkles around the mouth!
Try Sylfirm X RF Microneedling
According to Dr. Amanda Reiswig, M.D., Owner of EvolvMD MedSpa & Wellness, Sylfirm X RF Microneedling is the “most advanced RF Microneedling device on the market.” This treatment pretty much does it all. For those concerned about wrinkles around the mouth, the main benefit is skin lifting and tightening.
Dr. Reiswig explains that the device delivers radiofrequency energy and heat to “improve overall laxity by stimulating collagen at the dermal layer.” In other words, it addresses the underlying cause of your smile lines, giving your skin an overall lift.
The procedure is non-invasive, generally painless, and can take as little as 20 minutes. It uses the one-two punch of collagen stimulation and skin tightening to improve your overall elasticity. Plus, it can reduce additional signs of aging, like melasma, pigmentation issues, and changing skin texture. Best of all, recovery is quick and easy, and it won’t damage other nearby skin tissue.
It’s basically a facelift without the surgery!
Try CO₂ Laser Skin Resurfacing
For patients with deeper smile lines or more advanced sun damage, CO₂ laser skin resurfacing delivers next-level rejuvenation. At EvolvMD MedSpa & Wellness, our aestheticians use the SmartXide Pro CO₂ Laser—one of the most advanced fractional resurfacing systems available—to smooth, tighten, and renew aging skin around the mouth.
“The SmartXide Pro allows us to resurface the skin with remarkable precision,” explains Dr. Reiswig. “It stimulates collagen production at multiple depths while minimizing downtime—so patients see real rejuvenation without traditional CO₂ recovery.”
This technology gently removes damaged surface cells and delivers controlled energy to the deeper dermal layers, triggering fresh collagen and elastin production. The result? Softer, smoother skin with visibly reduced lines and a more even tone.
Whether you’re looking for a subtle refresh with a CO₂ Glow Peel or a more intensive resurfacing for deeper wrinkles, SmartXide Pro treatments are tailored to your skin type, comfort, and goals. With expert aftercare and options like exosome therapy to speed healing, recovery is smoother than ever.
It’s one of the most effective ways to lift and firm skin around the mouth—restoring a refreshed, youthful look that lasts.
What Not to Do to Prevent Wrinkles Around the Mouth
A lot of clients ask us about using Vaseline for wrinkles around the mouth. We’ll tell you what we tell them: solutions that seem too good to be true usually are.
Vaseline may be able to temporarily mask the appearance of wrinkles around the mouth. It can add moisture, plumping and hydrating the skin. With that said, it won’t actually repair the skin or prevent future damage. There is no active ingredient in Vaseline that stimulates collagen production. In fact, it’s incapable of penetrating deeply enough into your skin to have a long-term effect.
Vaseline also doesn’t play nicely with all skin types. It can make skin greasy, leading to acne and breakouts at any age.
Instead, we advise you to adopt a comprehensive skincare routine. Choose products rich in retinol or peptides with collagen-stimulating properties. Plus, apply sunscreen daily to prevent sun damage that can cause smile lines to form.
While products alone won’t eliminate smile lines, they can help keep new ones from forming.
