Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common problem affecting almost 5% of the US population. If you’re concerned that you sweat more than usual, you might be embarrassed in social situations and feel like it affects your quality of life.

The good news is that there are effective, longer term treatments available, such as microneedling, which can help you feel confident again. Here’s a look at hyperhidrosis treatment options and how our team at EvolvMD can help you.

We All Sweat — But Some of Us Sweat a Little Too Much

What is Hyperhidrosis? This condition means that you sweat more than you need to because your sweat glands are overreacting.

There are two main types of hyperhidrosis: focal hyperhidrosis and generalized hyperhidrosis.

  • Focal hyperhidrosis: This is the most common type of hyperhidrosis. It’s caused by a genetic change which results in a skin disorder. If you have focal hyperhidrosis, it usually starts before you’re 25 (but not always).
  • Generalized hyperhidrosis: Generalized hyperhidrosis is caused by either another medical problem or medication you’re taking for a pre-existing condition. In other words, it’s not so much a medical condition by itself, but a side effect of another issue. For example, people with diabetes can sweat more than others.

Causes of Hyperhidrosis

There are a few causes of hyperhidrosis, including:

  • Anxiety
  • Diabetes
  • General life stressors
  • Menopause
  • Neurological disorders
  • Overactive thyroid
  • Pregnancy
  • Sympathetic nervous system dysfunction

The cause of your hyperhidrosis might affect what treatment works best for you. At EvolvMD, we won’t recommend a treatment unless we’re confident it can help.

Symptoms of Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is characterized by excessive sweating from various body parts. Sweating usually comes from:

  • Chest
  • Face
  • Feet
  • Genitals
  • Hands
  • Underarms

Common symptoms include flushing, itching, irritation, and redness of the affected areas.

Drying Out: Can Hyperhidrosis Be Cured?

You can’t generally cure hyperhidrosis. However, that doesn’t mean you need to suffer from troublesome symptoms. It’s very possible to successfully treat hyperhidrosis – let’s explore your options.

Don’t Sweat It! Treatments for Excessive Sweating

There are a few hyperhidrosis treatments available.

  • Antiperspirants: Topical antiperspirants containing aluminum chloride offer temporary relief from hyperhidrosis. You need to reapply the antiperspirants regularly, though, and they’re not suitable if you have kidney problems.
  • Botox: Botox injections are derived from a toxin produced by bacteria. Doctors use low doses of the toxin to treat problems such as excessive sweating. However, Botox treatments can be costly compared to other options.
  • Sylfirm X RF Microneedling: Microneedling, a skin rejuvenation treatment, can be used to target sweat glands and reduce hyperhidrosis symptoms. Treatment takes less than 60 minutes and you’ll only need a few appointments to see impressive results!

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a safe and minimally invasive procedure. It involves using small and very fine “microneedles” to penetrate the skin. We can use microneedling to reduce fine lines, improve skin laxity, and control hyperhidrosis.

Tell Me More! What Happens During the Procedure?

A numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area. At EvolvMD, we always put your safety and comfort first. Once the cream is applied and takes effect, active treatment generally takes 20 minutes or less.

We use Sylfirm X Microneedling to target and render inactive sweat glands in problem areas. Many patients see highly positive results in just three treatments, but additional sessions may be required.

This form of microneedling can reduce hyperhidrosis by 80-90% and results can last for 2-5 years. You won’t have a long recovery period, either. You can return to most regular activities the same day.

No matter your skin color or type, we can use Sylfirm X RF Microneedling to help you.

Is Microneedling Painful?

Sylfirm X RF shouldn’t be painful, but it might cause slight discomfort. Some patients report tingling sensations or a little sensitivity, but these side effects are mild and temporary.

We use a topical numbing cream to make your treatment as comfortable as possible. If required, we can use extra cream or give it more time to take effect. We’re here to help – let us know if you’re nervous about pain. Our top priority is to offer you effective, safe, and comfortable treatment!

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

It depends on different factors, such as the severity of your symptoms and your age. However, most patients need at least three sessions – some require a couple of extra treatments to get the best results.

During a consultation, our team will review how many microneedling appointments you’ll need as treatment for excessive sweating.
